The past two years have been strong for movies. In 2010, we watched gems like True Grit, Black Swan and Inception. In 2011, we watched Midnight in Paris, Drive and The Descendants. Will 2012 be just as good? Looking at it on the surface, the answer is no. That said, it’s always difficult to tell the quality of a movie based on cast, budget, title and trailer. Let’s take a look at the biggest movies coming out in 2012. Then you can judge whether or not this is likely to be a great year for movies.

Ice Age 4: Continental Drift will have the same familiar voices of Ray Romano, Queen Latifah and Dennis Leary.Didn’t catch that? This explains it. The Ice Age movies are consistent, but none of them are going to win an Oscar.

Men In Black 3 should be interesting. The original was great and the sequel was a disaster. It will be interesting to see if Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones can deliver in this rubber match.

The Avengers stars Samuel L. Jackson and Mark Ruffalo. This movie should have a large following. However, similar movies have failed terribly as of late.

The Amazing Spider Man starring Andrew Garfield feels like more of an attempt at making big bucks than anything else, but maybe is will pleasantly surprise everyone.
